Wednesday, the 27th of November, the Onaga High School boys and girls basketball teams will be competing in a Free-Throw-a-Thon. This is also taking place on Alumni Night when our former graduated athletes will test their skills in a scrimmage. The Onaga Booster Club is also hosting a free-will donation dinner from 5:00pm to 6:30pm. The boys start scrimmaging at 6:00pm and the girls will start after their game ends.
The Free-Throw-a-Thon consists of a player shooting 500 free throws. The athletes will go around and collect sponsorships for each free throw made and the sponsorships will go towards the Onaga Basketball program. Not only does this fundraiser bring in money for our teams, but it also is used to strengthen and work on the athletes’ free throwing skills, which plays a huge role in any basketball player’s game. The sponsorships can consist of flat donations or a pledge per free throw.
Boys’ basketball coach, Jason Claycamp, has worked hard to make sure this Free-Throw-a-Thon happens. Coach Claycamp has put together many Free-Throw-a-Thons in the past and says “it is a very successful way of bringing in money to help the funds and it is beneficial to the players as well.” During the games, there will be a chance for people to win free admission passes to home Onaga basketball games for this season.
