This year's TVL tournament was held at Frankfort from January 18 through the 25. The high school boys and girls both played their first round on Saturday. The boys played the D-west Mustangs with a tied score at half-time. Unexpectedly, they lost 45 - 55. With the first game out of the way, they will had some time to practice before their next tournament game against Washington County that took place on Thursday, January 23.
The girls team played Valley Heights in the first game. They gave the game their all, but ended up losing to the Valley Heights Mustangs 24 - 65. The girls’ next game also played out to occur at the same date and against the same team as the boys on the 23.
The basketball players all left for the next tournament game at 3:00 on Thursday. The boys had pretty well shut the Tigers down in the first half of the game. The score was 40 - 18 at half time. The second half went well with the final score being 68 - 52. The girls were close (14 - 15) at half time. They played hard for the rest of the game, but Washington went home with the win.
The next day, the boys left at 3:00 again for their last game of the TVL tournament. The players were ready to play the Valley Heights Mustangs. The game began with the Mustangs on top. By half time the score was 18 - 24, Mustangs. The second half began, and Onaga fell down by 20. The buffaloes didn’t win, but they played hard during the final plays of the game. The score was 27 - 53, Mustangs.
Saturday brought the last game of the tournament for the buffaloes. The girls played against the Frankfort Wildcats. The lady buffs started off strong. By the end of the first half, Onaga was leading with a score of 28 - 20. The second half went very well, and Onaga went home with the win. The final score: 58 - 50.
The Onaga boys and girls finished 10th overall in the TVL tournament out of 11 teams within the league.
